Last weekend we enjoyed a trip to Blue Springs near Deltona and Orange City, in central east Florida. The springs were a beautiful, but cold 72 degrees. Perfect for a hot day in July. There were a lot of families enjoying the springs, tubing, swimming and snorkeling. A few scuba divers ventured down into the spring.

Blue Springs Boil
This picture shows the boil, where the spring comes up at Blue Springs. The water was crystal clear with a green background.
The air was electric with the excitement of kids splashing, having a great time.
In the winter, Blue Springs is a popular spot for Manatees. The 72 degree water attracts them, and Blue Springs is a good place to view them.
Further up the creek, we saw a group of large alligator gar swimming. There were probably 8 or 10 of these fish. I took a picture here, but I don’t know if you will be able to spot the aligator gar. They are there, swimming just below the surface.

Alligator Gar at Blue Springs
The alligator gar wisely stayed away from the swimming area. The park has one area designated for swimming, and the rest of the area is populated with wildlife. We saw fish, birds, and turtles.
The Thursby house located on the property at Blue Springs was open for visiting. It was not furnished, but contained a few period pieces and museum type exhibits.
